SFNF Gorham Fire Update


Gorham Fire UPDATE                                                   

Start Date: June 4

Cause: Lightning

Location: East of Gorham Scout Camp, Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest within the Pecos Wilderness.

Size: 1 acre

Containment:  estimated containment expected this evening

Fuel:  Grass, sage and Ponderosa pine

Weather: Winds calm

Situation: Smoke reported Monday at 5:51 p.m. Minimal fire behavior. Crews established fire line. Mop-up operations shortly underway. Resources on scene 2 SFNF engines with 8 personnel, 1 Flathead NF engine, 1 Black Canyon hand crew of approximately 12 members (Santa Fe County), 4 Grand Ronde helicopter rappel crew members from Oregon. Rappel crew was deployed due to difficulties hiking in.

Smoke/Air Quality:  Local communities may be impacted by smoke because of prevailing winds. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
