SFNF – Wildhorse Fire UPDATE

Wildhorse Fire UPDATE

Start Date: July 8

Cause: Lightning

Size: 7 acres

Location: Chama Wilderness Area of the Santa Fe National Forest

Containment: 90%

Fuel: ponderosa pine, pinyon, oak brush and grass

Weather: Cloudy and rainy

Resources: none on scene

Situation: The fire is lined and with minimal fire behavior. Due to rain and unsafe road conditions, fire crew will reassess tomorrow. Current rains appear to limit the fire to its 7-acre burn area, and it is anticipated that forecasted rains will keep the fire contained. Smoke may be visible from Llaves, Gallina, Abiquiu from highway 112, and roads 96, 84, 8, 151, 6, 7, and 77.

Smoke/Air Quality: Smoke impact to local communities at this time is low, however, smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory or heart disease should be prepared to exercise precautionary measures. Information on air quality and protecting your health can be found online at the New Mexico Department of Health’s website at https://nmtracking.org/fire.
