Pile Burning Continues on Lincoln National Forest

The Smokey Bear Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest plans to burn slash piles near the community of White Oaks August 9-11 depending on the weather.  They may burn up to 240 acres of dozer piled pinon/juniper trees located along Jicarilla Road/Forest Road 72, 1-3 miles east of White Oaks.

The purpose of this project is to reduce hazardous fuels following thinning and fuelwood removal activities to protect adjacent private property in and near White Oaks and improve forest health.

Smoke will be visible and could impact White Oaks and surrounding areas. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures. Information on air quality and protecting your health can be found online at the New Mexico DOH website at https://nmtracking.org/fire.
