Cuarenta Fire continues to burn in Salado Canyon; Fire is being monitored by firefighters

Albuquerque, NM, September 14, 2018 – The lightning-caused Cuarenta Fire, burning southwest of Cabezon Peak, is approximately 50-75 acres in size. The fire was first reported on Sept 9th.

The fire is burning in Salado Canyon under steep difficult conditions in rough terrain and is being managed by a Type 4 Incident Commander. No high values are currently at risk within a 5-mile perimeter and the fire is being monitored to allow for ecological benefits.

For travelers on U.S Route 550 and New Mexico State Route 279 the fire will be highly visible, but is not expected to affect travel on these highways.
