Montoya Springs Fire, Carson NF, Initial Report, Aug. 31

Fire managers on the Canjilon Ranger District of the Carson National Forest are monitoring a lightning-caused fire located near Forest Road 724, 2-4 miles east of the community of Canjilon, NM. The Montoya Springs fire is approximately 1 acre and is burning within an old burn scar from the 2002 Montoya Fire. Managers are monitoring and evaluating the fire to determine the best course of action at this time. No structures or other values are threatened.

The Montoya Springs Fire started on Thursday, August 29 and is burning slowly in oak brush, grass, ponderosa pine, piñon and juniper. Smoke may be visible from the communities of Canjilon and Placita Garcia and also from US 84 and NM State Highway 115.
