New Lightning-Caused Fire on the Camino Real Ranger District, Carson NF

Taos, NM – Sept. 3, 2019 – On Sept. 2 a lightning-caused fire was discovered on the Camino Real Ranger District of the Carson National Forest between the Amole Group Shelter and Forest Road 442. The Amole fire is approximately 5-7 acres and is burning in ponderosa pine and mixed conifer. It has been observed as a light surface fire that is creeping and smoldering.

Fire personnel are on scene with more being ordered. Indirect line is being prepared for a possible future burnout operation. Point protection will be established for any values that are put at risk.

Smoke and flames will be visible from Highway 518. Smoke may also be visible from Peñasco and the Taos area. Smoke may impact Highway 518, Peñasco and possibly drift into Taos, especially in the evenings.
