Conditions are Favorable for the David Canyon Prescribed Fire

Tijeras, NM, September 5, 2019 – Fire managers may begin the David Canyon prescribed fire as soon as next Monday.  The project area is located on the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands, approximately 6 miles south of Tijeras, NM.  Up to 900 acres will be treated to promote forest health and provide wildfire protection to nearby communities.  Up to 30 fire fighters from the Cibola and partnering agencies will be onsite to assist. 

Ignitions will begin at approximately 9:00 AM each morning and end no later than 4:00 PM.  Smoke will be monitored and may be visible for up to one week after ignition has ended, particularly from Highway 337.  While no formal closures are in place, the public is encouraged to visit areas other than the Drop In, Cajun Pine, and West Boundary Trails, and National Forest System Roads 530, 335, and 106.  For additional information, please contact the Sandia Ranger District at 505-281-3304.
