Fire Restrictions in Effect at Chaco Culture National Historic Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument

Due to extreme fire danger at Chaco Culture National Historic Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument, park officials will be implementing fire restrictions beginning Friday, June 19, 2020.

Beginning at 5 pm on Friday, June 19 the following acts will be prohibited throughout Chaco Culture National Historic Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument:

• Setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using fires of any kind, including wood and charcoal campfires within developed campgrounds or picnic areas, or permanently improved places of habitation. Stoves fueled by petroleum or Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) fuels are allowed.

• Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building or in parking lots or developed areas clear of vegetation.

• Possessing or using any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices (Prohibited at all times).

These restrictions will be enforced until rescinded by Superintendent Denise Robertson. Violation of the above, prohibited acts is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 and/or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
