East Well Fire – Socorro County – August 22, 2020

The East Well Fire is located on state land east of Socorro, NM, and 20 miles south of Mountainair, NM in Socorro County. The fire is currently estimated at 250 acres and burning in pinion, juniper, and grass. No structures are threatened. Today (08/22), firefighters are working to safely establish an anchor point and begin flanking the fire using heavy equipment to create containment lines. Multiple resources are on the scene, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM Socorro) USDA Forest Service (USFS) Mountainair Ranger District, Ruidoso Fire Department, McKinley County Fire Department, and Sandoval County Fire Department. Lightning started this fire just before 11:30 PM on August 20, 2020.
