Mars Fire Burning in the Manzanita Mountains

Tijeras, NM, October 18, 2020 – Fire crews are currently engaged on a brushfire reported this afternoon on the Manzanita Mountains.

The Mars Fire burning southwest of the intersection of Mars Court and Raven Road is estimated to be two acres in size.  The fire is burning in ponderosa pine and pinon juniper fuel types. Resources supporting the fire include a Bureau of Land Management hand crew, Forest Service and Bernalillo County Fire Department engines, a helicopter and fixed wing heavy tanker aircraft. Successful water bucket drops have been made and firefighters continue to work toward hand line and containment through the night.

No evacuations are recommended at this time. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
