Magdalena, NM; July 15, 2021: Due to afternoon and evening thunderstorms that passed through the area in the past two weeks, the Magdalena Ranger District has experienced multiple new fire starts. The largest two starts are the Tin Cup Fire and the Monument Saddle Fire.
The Tin Cup Fire is located on the southwest side of the San Mateo Mountains. The fire is approximately 4 acres in size, burning in mixed pine, juniper and Ponderosa. The Tin Cup Fire is currently in patrol and monitor status.
The Monument Saddle Fire is located 1-mile North of the Datil Lookout, in the Datil Mountains. The fire is approximately 3 acres in size, burning in mixed pine, Ponderosa and Juniper. The Monument Saddle fire is currently in patrol and monitor status.
At this time, there are no road advisories or closures in place. There are no trail closures within the fire perimeter. The weather forecast calls for the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms over the Magdalena Ranger District for the next few days. Smoke visibility will be minimal in the areas surrounding the fires.
