Lincoln National Forest: New Start – Gap Fire

5:30PM Update: Forward progress of the fire has been stopped by the firefighters. Current acres: 5.3 acres. This will be the final update for the Gap Fire unless there is a significant change.

5PM: Firefighters are on the scene of the Gap Fire on the Smokey Bear Ranger District in the Capitan Gap area. The fire is at the bottom of the West mountain and is not located in the wilderness area at this time.
The fire is approximately 2-3 acres.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation at this time.

Forest Service and county firefighters are working together on the fire. Smoke will be visible from Capitan and surrounding areas. No structures are threatened at this time.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
