The Big Hole Fire, located on state and private land in the Belen Bosque in Valencia County, remains estimated at 900 acres and 0% contained. Strong wind gusts pushed the fire beyond its primary and secondary containment lines overnight. Firefighters worked through the early morning hours to reestablish those lines on the east side of the fire of the levy road. The Geronimo Hotshots have joined the Forestry Division, Valencia County Fire Department, and numerous other fire agencies to work on containing the Big Hole Fire. A voluntary evacuation order remains in place. Remaining residents are urged to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
Evacuations: Those wishing to voluntarily evacuate may utilize the Belen Recreation Center at 305 Eagle Lane.
Weather: Wind gusts are expected to increase with Red Flag conditions this afternoon. The relative humidity is at 41%.
