The Simona Fire, located near Jarales in Valencia County, remains estimated at 165 acres and 0% containment. The fire continues to burn on both sides of the Rio Grande tonight. The Valencia County Fire Department reports that crews are protecting critical infrastructure in the area of the fire, including two large natural gas lines and a telecommunications line. There are no homes or other structures in immediate danger at this time. Multiple resources will work through the night to suppress pockets of heat and secure additional fire lines. Two helicopters were used today to make water drops on the fire. Aircraft will fly when it is safe to do so.
Evacuation Center: Residents who choose to voluntarily evacuate may utilize the Belen Recreation Center at 305 Eagle Lane in Belen.
