The Mitchell Fire, located east of Mosquero in Harding County, is 65% contained and remains estimated at 25,000 acres. Fire activity is minimal with very little smoke showing from the interior. Higher relative humidity and calmer winds are helping firefighters gain more containment. Crews are currently working on the northern edge of the fire where it is most active. Firefighters will continue to mop up any areas of heat they find and monitor for any new spread. The Mitchell Fire started Friday, April 22 off of NM Highway 39 near David Hill. The cause is under investigation.
