The Skiles 429 Fire, located northeast of Clayton along the Oklahoma border in Union County, is now estimated at 1,312 acres with more accurate mapping. The fire is 30% contained at this time. Crews are preparing for Red Flag conditions over the fire area today, which could spur new growth in the steep canyons where it is currently burning. A Type 3 helicopter is performing water drops on the fire while winds are calm, and crews on the ground reinforce the fire line. Evacuations in Oklahoma have been lifted and the shelters are closed.
