FINAL UPDATE: Spring Creek Fire – Single Tree Lightning Strike on the Sandia Ranger District

Cause: Single Tree Lightning Strike        

Location: West of Sandia Crest north of Sandia Tramway– Sandia Ranger District, Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands (NF & NGs).

Resources: Firefighters from the Cibola National Forest.

Strategy: Full suppression.

07/28/22 Update: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the first priority. The single tree lightning strike yesterday was in steep rough terrain with continued threats of lightning and heavy rain pausing direct ground attack for the safety of fire fighters. Fire crews monitored from a safe distance to ensure no fire spread from the single tree strike while the area continued to receive additional precipitation into the evening. Today fire crews were able to safely access the area to work on fire suppression efforts.

This will be the final report on this fire unless conditions or the situation warrants additional information.
