Lake Fire Update – Aug. 7

 

Location:  Middle Mesa, northwest of Navajo Lake in San Juan County, N.M. The fire crosses lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation. 

Reported start date: Aug. 2, 2023 

Size: 73 acres  

Containment: 20 percent contained. The crews expect to reach 50 percent containment by this evening.  

Cause:  Lightning strike  

Vegetation: Juniper, grass and brush 

Fire Behavior: The Lake Fire is exhibiting moderate fire behavior associated with winds produced by passing thunderstorms. 

Resources: Department of the Interior, San Juan County and Farmington Fire Department are responding to this effort.  

Values at risk: At this time, the Lake Fire is not threatening private residences. No evacuations are in effect.  

Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the first priority. Members of the public should avoid the Lake Fire area.

Smoke Smoke is currently visible from Arboles and Pagosa Springs, Colo. and Highways 64 and 550. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures. Weather: Today: Sunny, with a high around 92, relative humidity recovery is expected to be at 60 percent or greater. West winds between 15-20 mph, becoming 5-10 mph this evening. Tomorrow: Sunny with a high near 89. Breezy conditions with a southeast wind between 5-25 mph. Wind could gust as high as 35 mph. For more weather information, visit  https://www.weather.gov/
