Firefighters are responding to a new wildfire on the Tres Piedras District to the west zone of the Carson National Forest. The Broke Off Fire is estimated at five acres and the cause is yet to be determined. The fire is located around Broke Off Mountain and Cisneros Springs.
Vegetation in the fire area is grass, ponderosa pine, aspen patches, and mixed conifer. There is a low rate of spread with primarily smoldering and creeping fire behavior. It is being managed under a full suppression response.
Resources assigned to the fire include one crew, an engine, and several district firefighters for a total of 25 personnel. Fire crews will continue constructing line today to prevent further growth.
