Location: Middle Mesa, northwest of Navajo Lake in San Juan County, N.M. The fire crosses lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation.
Reported start date: Aug. 2, 2023
Size: 73 acres
Containment: 90 percent contained.
Cause: Lightning strike.
Vegetation: Juniper, grass and brush.
Fire Behavior: The Lake Fire is exhibiting low fire behavior associated with winds produced by passing thunderstorms.
Resources: Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, San Juan County, and City of Farmington are responding to this effort. Equipment resources include three Type 6 engines, one fire use module, and a water tender.
Values at risk: At this time, the Lake Fire is not threatening private residences. No evacuations are in effect.
Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the first priority. Members of the public should avoid the Lake Fire area.
Smoke: Smoke is visible from Arboles, Pagosa Springs, Colo. and Highways 64 and 550. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
