Stout Canyon Fire Update 9/12/23

Date/ Time/ Situation: Crews progressed in their efforts to contain the Stout Canyon fire over the weekend and into Monday. As of this morning, the fire is 110 acres and 75% contained. This new acreage number reflects more accurate mapping through GPS software. The fire is receiving precipitation today, as well as over the past two days. This, coupled with high relative humidity in the area, has helped suppression efforts. Crews will monitor the fire during precipitation periods and will continue securing containment lines when it is safe to do so. The Stout Canyon fire is located approximately 10 miles west of Hwy 64, in Colfax County. The lightning-caused fire was reported on Tuesday, September 5 at 6:30 p.m. This will be the last notification on this fire unless there are significant changes.  

Resources: Heavy equipment resources have been released. A total of 35 personnel are currently engaged.  

Weather: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. South wind around 5 mph becoming southeast. Chance of precipitation is 70%. A Flood Watch is in effect for the area from 2pm until 8pm this evening. Tonight, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 9pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 70%. 

Evacuations / Closures: There are no evacuations or closures in effect. No structures are threatened.
