Highlights: Firefighters remain focused on patrolling hazards, reinforcing containment lines, and protecting values at risk. With hotter and drier weather predicted for today, an increase in fire spread and smoke is expected.

Fire Activity: Yesterday, on the northwestern edge of the fire, firefighters continued monitoring the perimeter and assessed opportunities for further containment. Air resources provided additional support through water drops along this area of the fire. Along the central and eastern flanks, crews assessed hot spots and took action to prevent further fire spread, as this area still holds heat. Firefighters remain present in communities near the Rio Gallina and Rio Chama where they are monitoring conditions and addressing areas that pose continued risk.

Today, efforts will focus on securing the containment line from the southeastern perimeter, particularly where the fire progresses towards La Presa Canyon. This area remains a priority due to its steep terrain and importance as a watershed for local communities. An unmanned aircraft system (UAS) arrived at the incident yesterday and will begin to provide aerial support and reconnaissance to firefighters working along the northern perimeter of the fire today.

Weather: A continued warming and drying trend is expected for the Laguna Fire area on Wednesday as a weak ridge of high pressure builds over northern New Mexico. While a slight chance of isolated afternoon storms exists, the overall pattern favors stable conditions with increasing temperatures and lower humidity. Winds are expected to be light throughout the day; however, nearby storms could create sudden wind shifts and erratic gusts over the fire area.

Smoke: Area residents can expect to see continued smoke from the Laguna Fire and nearby fires to the north and west. Please use caution when driving in the area. For the most up-to-date smoke information, visit https://outlooks.wildlandfiresmoke.net/outlook/a60ea7fd?

Closures and Flight Restrictions: A closure order is in place for USFS lands in the area. To view the complete order, visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/r03/santafe/alerts/laguna-wildfire-closure-order. A new TFR was put in place yesterday. For current TFR maps, visit https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=list
