Pile Burning to Continue Near El Rito in Rio Arriba County

As ventilation rates improve this week, fire crews are planning to continue pile burning starting Feb. 3 near El Rito in Rio Arriba County along the following Forest Service roads:

• Smoke Sensitive? A limited number of portable air purifiers with HEPA filters, donated by the Forest Stewards Guild, are available for loan during igntions. Local residents can call the El Rito Ranger Station at (575) 581-4554 for availability.
• Ventilation rates are used to evaluate air quality conditions and determine if or how much burning can occur. With low rates last week, crews conducted the allowed amount of ignitions to limit smoke impacts to the public while continuing to reduce the threat of wildfire.
