Albuquerque, NM – May 9, 2026 — Firefighters continue to actively work to suppress the Six Mile.

Size: Estimate 40+ acres
Location: Mountainous terrain of Magdalena Mountains on the Magdalena Ranger District – New Mexico on the Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands.
Resources: Forest Service Engines, Smokey Bear & Santa Fe Hotshots, Apache Kid and Pecos River Fire Modules, Air Attack, NS 1 Type 3 Helicopter committed and air tankers available upon request.
Fire Behavior: The Six Mile Fire exhibited very active fire behavior yesterday afternoon and evening.
Values at risk: The Six Mile Fire is not a threat to any communities, and there are no evacuations in effect.
Fuels: Oak and Pinyon/Juniper
Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the first priority. The public is encouraged to avoid the surrounding area so that first responders can continue their efforts. Drones pose a serious risk to firefighting and can cause air operations to cease. The public is reminded that “If you fly, we can’t!”
Smoke may be visible along Highway 60 west of as well as from Interstate 25. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
