Albuquerque, NM – May 28, 2026 — Firefighters responded yesterday evening to suppress the Seco wildfire within southeast Mt Taylor Mountains on the Mt Taylor Ranger District.

Reported start date / time: May 27, 2026 / 1659

Cause: Under Investigation.

Size:  .75 Acre

Containment: 50%

Location: Southeast Mt Taylor Mountains on the Mt Taylor Ranger District within New Mexico.

Resources on scene: US Forest Service.

Operations: Yesterday, firefighters utilized direct extinguishment strategy. Forward progression was stopped using crews constructing handlines. Today, firefighters will continue to secure the perimeter as well as mop-up interior hotspots.

Fuels: Timber, piñon-juniper, grass.

Weather: The forecast for Grants, NM today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Southeast wind around 15 mph.Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. https://www.weather.gov/

Residual smoke may be visible from San Fidel, Cubero, Acoma Pueblo and Laguna Pueblo.
