Update, 12:45 p.m.: A recent aerial flight survey indicates that the fire is 400 acres. The number includes acreage treated during last night’s and this morning’s strategic burnout operations and unburned areas within planned control lines.
After a successful night shift, firefigthers are on scene this morning, working toward containing the fire, which remains at 80 acres with 0% containment.
They have been taking advantage of moderate morning temperatures and creeping fire behavior to burn fuels on the north flank, along Forest Service Road 80, and the east flank, continuing last night’s work (pictured) along a private property boundary. A Type 3 helicopter has been ordered to assist.
On-site weather is forecasted to be mostly sunny in the mid 70s with relative humidity dropping into the teens. The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning and wind advisory for later today. Winds out of the southwest at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected.
After more lightning activity yesterday, fire managers have ordered another detection flight for today.
Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect.
The Beehive Fire was first reported at about 1 p.m. on June 25 to the north of Highway 64 in the Tusas Valley, about 15 miles west of Tres Piedras.
