Operation Highlights: Firefighters continue to make significant progress on the Beehive Fire, with ongoing mop-up and suppression repair efforts increasing containment to 74 percent. As suppression activities enter their final stages, a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team began assessing the fire area for rehabilitation needs yesterday. Although their work complements ongoing suppression efforts, suppression repair and BAER rehabilitation serve different purposes following a wildfire. Suppression repair occurs during and immediately after firefighting operations and focuses on repairing impacts caused by suppression activities, such as restoring firelines, improving drainage and stabilizing areas disturbed by equipment. BAER rehabilitation takes place after a fire is contained and focuses on evaluating and addressing post-fire hazards created by the burned landscape, including flooding, erosion and debris flows, to protect communities, infrastructure and natural and cultural resources.

With containment steadily increasing and key incident objectives being achieved, some personnel and equipment are being released as part of the planned rightsizing of the incident management organization. As fire activity decreases and operational needs change, the incident no longer requires the same level of staffing and equipment needed during the initial stages of the fire. Resources no longer needed on the Beehive Fire are being reassigned to other incidents with greater needs or returned to their home units for rest and readiness. Remaining crews continue to focus on mop-up, patrol and suppression repair activities, ensuring containment lines remain secure and the fire is fully stabilized before final containment objectives are met.

The substantial progress made on the Beehive Fire has positioned the Northern New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team to begin planning for a transition of command back to the Carson National Forest in the coming days. This transition reflects the significant work accomplished by firefighters and the continued reduction in fire activity as the incident moves toward full containment. As fire activity decreases and the incident enters its final stages, public information needs have also diminished. Beginning after today’s update, the Beehive Fire Daily Update will be distributed every other day rather than daily. Should significant changes in fire activity or incident operations occur, additional updates will be provided as needed.

Smoke: For current smoke conditions, view the interactive smoke map at https://fire.airnow.gov/. Learn more about protecting yourself from wildfire smoke and its health impacts at https://nmtracking.org/environment/air/FireAndSmoke.html.

Weather & Fire Behavior: A few isolated showers may develop in the afternoon. Most of the rain is expected to evaporate before reaching the ground, but these storms can still produce sudden, gusty winds that may briefly increase fire activity and cause the fire to spread in changing directions. Chances of rain are expected to increase early next week as more moisture moves into the area. Outside of any showers or thunderstorms, winds will remain light (generally less than 10 mph) over the next several days.F

ire Restrictions & Closures: A Beehive Fire road closure is in effect. The closure includes Forest Service Roads 83, 421, 576 and 133, from Highway 64 to its intersection with Forest Service Road 133E1. Closure information can be found at: https://bit.ly/Beehive-Fire-Road-Closures. The Carson National Forest is currently in Stage 2 fire restrictions.
