Operational Highlights: Yesterday marks the Northern New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team’s final full shift on the Beehive Fire as command transitions back to the Carson National Forest today. Under the team’s leadership, firefighters made steady progress through direct suppression, extensive mop-up and suppression repair. Thanks to the hard work, dedication and teamwork of everyone assigned to the incident, the Beehive Fire is now 97% contained with no new growth in acreage since the last update.
As management of the incident transitions back to the Carson National Forest, firefighters will continue suppression repair in areas affected by firefighting operations while patrolling the fire to ensure it remains within established containment lines until it is fully secured. Although the remaining 3% of the fire is still uncontained, firefighters continue working toward full containment. Containment is expected to reach 100% once suppression repair is complete and fire managers determine the entire perimeter can be confidently secured.
Crews are repairing fences, installing water bars to reduce erosion, removing berms, naturalizing disturbed areas and restoring them as closely as possible to their pre-suppression condition. Meanwhile, the Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team continues assessing the fire area to identify post-fire rehabilitation needs and evaluate potential risks to natural resources, infrastructure and public safety.

Weather & Fire Behavior: Moisture will increase overnight, bringing a better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms again today. Most areas that receive rain can expect light amounts, though isolated locations could receive over a half-inch. While the added moisture should help moderate fire activity, any thunderstorm could produce sudden, erratic wind gusts up to 50 mph that may cause short-term increases in fire behavior.
Fire Restrictions & Closures: A Beehive Fire road closure is in effect. The closure includes Forest Service Roads 83, 421, 576 and 133, from Highway 64 to its intersection with Forest Service Road 133E1.
