As of 6:00am, August 13, 2026, California Complex Interagency Incident Management Team 8 (CIMT), assumed command of the Frijoles Fire.

Operational Update: Firefighters aided by heavy equipment will continue to construct contingency lines west of the

fire to protect homes in Frijoles Canyon, the community of Cundiyo, Gorham Scout Ranch, and Cerro Pinon. Construction of containment line north of Rio Medio will continue by crews and heavy equipment. Firefighters will continue structure assessment and preparation in communities west of the fire in Cundiyo, Canyon Chimayo, Cerro Pinon and at Gorham Scout Ranch. Firefighters are constructing indirect confinement lines south of Rio Frijoles along the western flank. Preparation of FR (Forest Road) 306 as part of the confinement strategy will continue. A full suppression strategy includes a combination of direct extinguishing and indirect confinement actions through the use of natural topographic features to limit the fire spread. Interagency Hotshot Crews (IHC) will continue to scout for opportunities for direct extinguishment strategies.

Team 8 will continue working in close coordination with Santa Fe National Forest, Santa Fe County, Rio Arriba County, surrounding communities, Pueblos and Tribes.

Weather: High temperatures will range from the upper 70s to mid-80s, with minimum relative humidity to low 30 percent range. Late afternoon thunderstorms will bring erratic winds of 10–15 mph, with outflow winds potentially exceeding 35–45 mph. Lightning, brief heavy rainfall, localized flooding, and sudden wind shifts will be the primary weather concerns for fire personnel.

Evacuations: Santa Fe County and Rio Arriba County issued evacuation status updates. Santa Fe County issued a “Go Status” update – Immediate Evacuation of individuals on Camino de Canon in Cundiyo. The rest of Cundiyo and Cerro Piñon have been placed on “Set Status”. Rio Arriba County issued a “Ready Status” update for the community of Cordova.

There is a road closure for NM 503 between County Road 98 and State Road 76. Visitors are encouraged to avoid the fire area and use caution when traveling near firefighting operations.

Forest Closure: The Santa Fe National Forest issued a Temporary Road Closure Order affecting FR 306, from the intersection of FR 440 and FR 306, West to the Forest Boundary and FR 306.

No closure order exists for the Pecos Wilderness, but with fire suppression happening in the Wilderness within the Española Ranger District, the public should avoid this area.

Announcement: A community meeting regarding the Frijoles Fire will be hosted today, August 14, 2026 at 6 pm at McCurdy Ministries in the McCracken Gym 362 S McCurdy Rd, Espanola, NM 87532. This meeting will also be livestreamed over the Santa Fe National Forest’s Facebook page.
