Operational Update: Yesterday’s weather influenced fire behavior and pushed smoke into nearby communities, particularly in low-lying areas. Firefighters continued working along the northwest edge of the fire, extending hand constructed line from the western flank and making significant progress toward stopping the fire’s spread. Receptive fuels, steep terrain and changing weather conditions contributed to the fire spotting on the eastern side of the fire.

Last night, crews were strategically positioned and responded as needed due to gusty outflow winds generated by nearby thunderstorms. Rainfall was observed across portions of the fire area; however, precipitation amounts varied across the fire footprint.

Steep, rugged terrain in the wilderness continues to challenge firefighters’ ability to safely access remote areas and use direct extinguishment strategies along the fire’s edge. Fireline supervisors are conducting extensive planning and continually adjusting tactics as weather, terrain and fire behavior change.

The fire remains active, and additional resources continue to arrive. The incident management team, local leaders and agency officials are using a combination of direct extinguishment and indirect confinement strategies to protect lives, communities and other critical values at risk.

Weather: Today, it will be partly cloudy, with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. There is a 40% chance of rain through mid-evening. Temperatures will be between 85℉ and 89℉, with relative humidity between 20% to 25%. Winds will be from the west northwest at 5 to 10 mph.
