Community Meeting Monday, August 24 at 6 p.m. at the Truchas Community Center
Operational Update: Firefighters on the Frijoles fire have made good progress strengthening containment lines, building depth of up to 200 feet in the western portion of the fire. Crews will remain along the western edge extinguishing pockets of heat, while additional resources will be reassigned to other areas.
California Complex Interagency Incident Management Team 8 has been granted permission to begin constructing contingency lines north of the fire on the Carson National Forest. Work will include improving existing roads and continuing preparations along Forest Road 306 (nearing completion). Equipment and resources will shift north to support this work in the wilderness area.
In the northeast, the Navajo and Gila Hotshots will scout areas of remaining heat and evaluate where to engage directly supported by aviation resources to more accurately extinguish isolated pockets.
Air Quality: Today, the entire area should remain fairly clear of smoke. The overall air quality index (AQI) is rated good. Even so, there will likely be hazy skies and some nearby areas could see more smoke during the evening if the fire becomes more active. Weather: Sunday is expected to begin warm and dry as high pressure builds over the region. There will remain a slight chance of thunderstorms, and outflow winds from nearby storms could influence conditions over the fire. Overall storm chances are expected to decrease, with a warmer and drier pattern developing through the coming week.
Evacuations: In Santa Fe County, all of Cundiyo, Cerro Piñon, and the Borrego Mesa area—specifically near Forest Roads 440 and 306—are in “Set” status. Nambe Pueblo Lake remains in “Ready” status. For more information, please visit https://www.santafecountynm.gov/fire

Closures: There is a road closure for NM 503 between County Road 98 and State Road 76. Visitors are encouraged to avoid the fire area and use caution when traveling near firefighting operations.
