A new wildfire, named the Osha Medio Fire, has started near Pecos Canyon in the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District, Santa Fe National Forest. The fire was first reported on August 23, 2026.
Size: Approximately 5 acres
Fire Behavior: Burning in grass, brush, and timber, with moderate to high spread potential.
Cause: Undetermined at this time but lightning was reported in the area.
Operations: Fire crews and helicopters are actively working to contain the fire using a full suppression strategy. Progress was made to slow its spread this evening, and additional resources are expected in the morning.
Safety: Please avoid the area to allow emergency crews to work safely. If you live near Pecos Canyon or Tres Lagunas, be prepared for possible changes in fire activity and follow any instructions from local authorities. Currently, there is no threat to people or property. Aerial resources are incredibly important to stop forward progress of the fire during initial attack. Recreational drones near wildfires are not safe. IF YOU FLY, WE CAN’T!
