Latest Update: Firefighters remain focused on securing the Frijoles Fire perimeter, strengthening containment and contingency lines, and monitoring areas where heat and fire activity remain. Today’s work will further suppression efforts across the fire while ensuring crews are prepared to respond to changing conditions. 

Ongoing & Planned Operations: On Wednesday, firefighters made progress on the southeastern portion of the Frijoles Fire, extending direct fireline toward Frijoles Creek. Air resources assigned to the fire also responded to reports of new smoke in the surrounding area, supporting initial attack efforts while remaining available to meet aviation needs on the Frijoles Fire. 

Today, crews will focus on securing fireline and monitoring fire behavior along the eastern perimeter. Along the western and northwestern portions of the fire, firefighters will patrol and mop-up containment lines, including areas near critical infrastructure, to reduce the potential for fire to move outside the secured perimeter. In the northern portions of the fire, crews will patrol containment line extending from the Pecos Wilderness boundary and strengthen contingency lines north of the perimeter, giving firefighters additional locations to safely engage the fire should activity increase. 

Air Quality & Smoke: Most areas should have good air quality today and tomorrow, although Taos, Santa Fe, and Valley Vista may have hazy skies. Española and Nambé may have light morning smoke that clears later in the day. Tonight, smoke may settle into the Nambé and Mora valleys. Mora could reach unhealthy for sensitive groups, but conditions should improve by late tomorrow morning. More information is available at https://outlooks.airfire.org/outlook. 

Weather: Hot and dry conditions are expected Friday, with temperatures in the upper-80s and afternoon humidity falling to 14-20%. Winds will remain light from the west at 5-10mph with gusts up to 15mph.  

Evacuations & Closures: In Santa Fe County, all of Cundiyo, Cerro Piñon, and the Borrego Mesa area (near Forest Roads 440 and 306) are in “Set” status. Nambe Pueblo Lake remains in “Ready” status. A road closure is in effect for NM 503 between County Road 98 and State Road 76. Visitors are encouraged to avoid the fire area and use caution when traveling near firefighting operations. A temporary forest area closure is also in effect on the Santa Fe National Forest, including the Pecos Wilderness area in the Espanola Ranger District. There is a Temporary Road Closure Order affecting FR 306, from the intersection of FR 440 and FR 306, West to the Forest Boundary and FR 306. Detailed closure information is available on the incident web page at https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-closures/nmsnf-frijoles-fire.
