Latest Update: Recent rains across portions of the Frijoles Fire have limited firefighter access and opportunities to safely work in some areas.
A Community Meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the Truchas Community Center (58 County Road 75, Truchas, NM 87578). This meeting will also be livestreamed on Facebook (Frijoles Fire and Santa Fe National Forest) and YouTube (www.youtube.com/@Wildlandfireupdates).
Ongoing & Planned Operations: Today, incident personnel will scout and assess areas along the northern perimeter. If conditions allow, crews are expected to resume work in the area, supporting ongoing efforts near communities north of the fire.
Along the eastern perimeter, crews will patrol several areas that continue to hold heat and produce some visible smoke. The most active of those areas is near the center of the eastern flank, where fire is slowly working through dryer fuels. This area may produce more visible smoke, but significant fire spread is not expected. Steep, rugged terrain and limited access remain key factors in how firefighters safely engage this portion of the fire.
Air Quality & Smoke: Smoke will be more noticeable today, but impacts will be limited to the immediate vicinity of the fire.
Nambe and Mora may have periods of Moderate air quality from sources of smoke other than the Frijoles Fire. Otherwise, all forecast sites will have Good air quality for the day. More information: https://outlooks.airfire.org/outlook.
Weather: Temperatures will reach the upper 80s today with relative humidity between 20 and 30%. Warmer and drier conditions are expected over the next several days, with monsoonal moisture potentially returning toward the end of the week.
Evacuations & Closures: No evacuations are in place in Santa Fe or Rio Arriba counties for the Frijoles Fire. Residents should remain prepared and continue monitoring official updates, as the fire remains active and conditions may change.
A temporary forest area closure remains in effect on the Santa Fe National Forest, including the Pecos Wilderness area in the Espanola Ranger District. Additionally, there is a Temporary Road Closure Order affecting FR 306, from the intersection of FR 440 and FR 306, west to the Forest Boundary and FR 306.
