Latest Update: The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team is currently in the area assessing fire effects.

Ongoing & Planned Operations: Mitigation and repair operations continue with heavy equipment along the northeastern flank of the Frijoles Fire.

The Mitchell Fire on the Santa Fe National Forest is being patrolled by the local unit. Rainfall was significant in the area and reports indicate the fire has decreased from 2 acres to 1.4 acres.

Air Quality & Smoke: Smoke from the eastern flank of the fire will become more noticeable today. If it is cloudy today, light smoke will settle in valleys within the fire perimeter overnight but it is not expected to impact the forecast sites. Smoke impacts will be confined to the immediate vicinity of the fire but will be visible from the communities. If it is another dry and sunny day there could be small amounts of fire progression. In the worst case scenario of active surface all forecast sites will have an average air quality of good. Mora would have a period of moderate in the afternoon as westerly winds push smoke over the mountains. The drainages between the fire and Chimayo could see unhealthy for sensitive groups in the evening as smoke settles down drainage. Truchas could see periods of moderate air quality. Weather: Chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms after 3pm today. Mostly sunny with a high near 87. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the morning. Evening forecast brings a chance of precipitation of 20%. Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible before 9pm. Mostly cloudy with a low around 59.  Chance of nighttime precipitation of 40%.

Evacuations & Closures: No evacuations are in place in Santa Fe or Rio Arriba counties for the Frijoles Fire. Residents should remain prepared and continue monitoring official updates, as the fire remains active and conditions may change.

A temporary forest area closure remains in effect on the Santa Fe National Forest, including the Pecos Wilderness area in the Espanola Ranger District. Additionally, there is a Temporary Road Closure Order affecting FR 306, from the intersection of FR 440 and FR 306, west to the Forest Boundary and FR 306.
