Dog Head Fire Community Meeting to be held in Torreon

Albuquerque, NM, June 15, 2016; 12:15 PM – Crews worked through the night and made good progress on the Dog Head Fire last night.  Air support and cooler temperatures moderated fire behavior, allowing them to engage more fully.  Infrared technology mapped the fire at 682 acres this morning.  Day shift crews were on scene early this morning to continue suppression efforts.

The New Mexico Type 2 Incident Management Team, under the command of Rich Nieto, was given a thorough briefing this morning.  The team will spend today shadowing their counterparts on the Type 3 team, and assume responsibility of the Dog Head Fire at 6:00 PM this evening.

A community meeting will be held at 7:00 PM this evening at the Torreon Community Center, located at 18 Torreon Heights Road East, in Torreon, NM.  Representatives from Isleta Pueblo, New Mexico State Forestry, Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands; and members of the Type 2 Incident Management Team will provide information on the Dog Head Fire and the suppression efforts that are underway.  The public is invited to attend.

A temporary phone center has been established to provide information about the Dog Head Fire until 6:00 PM tonight.  Please call 505-346-3870 if you have questions.  A new Fire Information phone number will be published this evening
