Carson National Forest – Independence Fire Update

Taos, NM, July 10, 2016—For Immediate Release. The Independence Wildfire started on July 4, 2016 on the Questa Ranger District, north of Lama Foundation is currently 70% contained. The fire, located between the Lama Foundation and the Columbine/Hondo Wilderness Area, has held at 22 acres.

Fire activity today was minimal and allowed for progress to be made on the fire. A Red Flag warning for high winds and possible dry lightning has been issued for tomorrow. Resources will continue work on the Independence Fire and will be prepared should the forecasted weather result in more active fire behavior.

A few resources released from both the La Cañada and Independence Fire have been prepositioned in Taos and are available to respond to any potential new fires resulting from the forecasted weather for the next couple of days.
