Sacramento Ranger District – Little John Fire
FINAL FIRE UPDATE: 5/30/17 10:30 am – The Little John Fire was 100% contained at 9:45 pm on May 29 at less than 3/10 of an acre. Light rain helped with the suppression efforts. Firefighters are returning to the fire today and possibly tomorrow to patrol the area.

New Fire Start – Little John Fire

Jurisdiction: Lincoln National Forest, Sacramento Ranger District and Private land

Location: About 10 miles east of Cloudcroft
Lat/Long: 32 deg, 57 min, 7.56 sec X 105 deg, 37 min, 21.35 sec
Legal Description: T16S, R13E, NESW Sec 4
Firefighting Resources: Local area Volunteer Fire Dept and FS personnel on scene with an additional FS engine enroute.
Values at Risk: Assessing (as of 5/29/17 @ 9 pm). As assessed late last night: houses

Fuels: Grass, mixed Conifer and Ponderosa Pine

Cause: Under investigation
Status: Firefighters responded to the Little John Fire this evening (5/29/17) shortly after it was reported. They are currently working on containment and mop-up. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Light rains have developed over the area and firefighters will work on securing the perimeter tonight and returning to their respective stations. They will return to the Little John Fire in the morning to continue with additional suppression activities, which will most likely include containment, patrolling and monitoring. The fire is primarily burning in grass and the light precipitation and increase in humidity will help the suppression efforts.
Sacramento Ranger District, 5/29/17 – 7:15 pm – Firefighting resources are responding to a new wildfire start on the Lincoln National Forest, general location is about 10 miles east of Cloudcroft. Once firefighters are on scene and able to size-up the fire, this post will be updated to provide additional information.
