Update on David Canyon Fire

Tijeras, NM, April 7, 2018 – The David Canyon Fire, located in the David Canyon Area of the Manzanita Mountains was reported early this afternoon.  Firefighting resources from Bernalillo County Fire, New Mexico State Forestry and the Sandia Ranger District responded, along with support from Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department and US Forest Service Law Enforcement. The fire has been contained at 15 acres, with all active fire in the interior.

Smoke will be visible from the East Mountain area. New Mexico Department of Transportation has placed electronic notification signs along State Highway 337 to inform of potential smoke impacts.

There are currently NO threats or evacuations in place and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Fire resources will be utilizing the Pine Flat Picnic Area along State Highway 337 and it will be temporarily closed to the public.
