The State Forestry Division and multiple interagency partners are working to suppress two wildfires threatening homes in southeast New Mexico.
The “246 Fire” is burning east of Highway 246 and has forced the evacuation of at least seven (7) homes on Edna Road in Capitan, NM. The fire is being pushed by strong wind gusts. This fire is estimated at 200-acres.
The “206 Fire” is burning off of Highway 206 between Tatum and Milnesand, NM and has moved into Texas. The fire has forced the evacuation of at least 12 homes on Bledsoe Road in New Mexico. This fire is estimated at 60,000 acres. Resources from Texas are working on suppression efforts from their end of the fire. Additional resources are also being called in to assist on the New Mexico side.
