WILDFIRE UPDATE: 246 Fire & 206 Fire – Southeast NM – 04/13/18

246 Fire: This fire, burning east of Highway 246 in Capitan, NM, is currently estimated at 2,600 acres.  Two (2) residences and four outbuildings have been lost.  A total of 20 structures are threatened near Edna Road and County Road 6.   The Lincoln County Sheriff has opened a Red Cross Evacuation Center at Trinity Church.  The fire started at approximately 5:00 p.m. Thursday (04/12). It’s currently burning on private, state and US Forest Service land.  Fuels include grass and heavy pinon juniper.

206 Fire:  This fire is burning in New Mexico and Texas.  The fire started off of Highway 206 between Tatum and Milnesand, NM around 2:30 p.m. Thursday (04/12).  Residents from at least a dozen homes on Bledsoe Road in New Mexico who were evacuated have been allowed to return home.  The total acreage between both states is estimated at 60,000 acres, but this will likely change once GPS mapping is established. Containment in New Mexico is currently 90% and 75% in Texas.  One home and one outbuilding were lost to the fire in Texas.  The fire is burning on private and state land.
