Bluewater and Diener Canyon Fire Evening Update 4/13/2018

Bluewater Fire – Dozer lines are being built around the fire to keep it on Salitre Mesa.  Crews are providing structural protection in the Bluewater Subdivision.  A pre-evacuation notice has been issued in the subdivision.  Bluewater State Park is closed.

The Diener Canyon Fire is burning on Mount Sedgwick near an old fire scar from 2004.  Last night, crews completed a burnout operation on Forest Road (FR) 480 from Post Office Flats to Ojo Redondo.  They are working to keep the fire north of FR 480 and west of FR 425.  They continue to prepare FR 480 from Ojo Redondo to the intersection with FR 425 for a burnout operation that will be conducted when weather conditions are favorable.  Both fires are estimated to be approximately 1,000 acres in size.

The cause of both fires is still under investigation.

Numerous resources are on scene to support the suppression effort, including crews, engines, water tenders, and dozers.  The Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Management Team (“Team 2”), under the command of John Pierson, arrived today and will assume responsibility for both fires at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning.
