Magdalena Ranger District going into Stage I Fire Restrictions

Magdalena, NM; April 18, 2018 – For Immediate Release. Fire danger has increased to High across the Magdalena Ranger District, due to the recent hot and dry weather patterns across the region. In response to the current conditions, fire managers will enact Stage I fire restrictions beginning Wednesday, April 18, 2018 for the Magdalena Mountain Range, San Mateo Mountain Range and Datil Mountain Range. The Gallinas and Bear Mountain Ranges on the Magdalena Ranger District have no Stage I fire restrictions at the time.

PROHIBITIONS:

  1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, except in Forest Service developed camp and picnic grounds were grills and stoves are provided by the Forest Service.
  2.  Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
  3. Possessing, discharging or using any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices.

These orders will remain in effect until December 31, 2018, or until rescinded. Violations of the fire order are punishable by a fine of $5,000 for individuals, $10,000 for organizations, and/or 6 months of imprisonment.
