FINAL UPDATE: Morris Creek Fire – 07/16/18

THIS WILL BE THE FINAL UPDATE FOR THE MORRIS CREEK FIRE

Location: 18 miles west of Springer, New Mexico, in Colfax County

Start Date: June 29, 2018   Cause: Lightning

Size: Approximately 1,671 Acres

Percent Contained: 80%

Vegetation: Timber, closed timber litter, grass

Summary: The Morris Creek Fire, burning on the UU Bar Ranch, Philmont Scout Ranch, and State Land.

Increased humidity and recent rain has helped slow the progress of the Morris Creek Fire.  Part of the fire’s northern perimeter remains uncontained due to the inaccessibility of steep, rugged terrain.  Crews will continue to monitor the north side of the fire.

There is concern for road conditions to change due to debris rolling onto the road from rains near the fire burn scar areas. For up to date road closure information refer to New Mexico Department of Transportation Road Advisory Hotline 511 or NMRoads.com.
