Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands – Multiple Wildfire Starts on the Magdalena Ranger District – 7/15/2018

MAGDALENA, NM, July 15, 2018 – Multiple wildfire starts were discovered from numerous thunderstorms that passed through the area on Saturday, July 14 in the Hop Canyon and Magdalena Mountain Range areas of the Magdalena Ranger District. These three fires are the Hop Fire, the Agua Fria Fire and the Bear Fire.

The Hop Fire was detected Saturday, July 14, 2018. The fire is located in Hop Canyon and is .10 acres in size. At 12:00 noon today, the fire was contained and is now in patrol status. Smoke may still be visible from Hop Canyon. Lat/Log: 34.07.33;-107.11.698

The Agua Fria Fire was detected Sunday, July 15, 2018. The fire is located on the upper west hill side of Hop Canyon near Forest Trail #25. A single tree snag was detected and rolled down into a rock scree field. Smoke may be visible from Hop Canyon. The Agua Fria fire is currently in patrol status. Lat/Log: 33.01.192; -107.12.451

The Bear Fire was detected today, Sunday, July 15, 2018. The fire is located on the west side of the Magdalena Mountain Range, upslope from the Muleshoe Ranch and is .10 acres in size. The Bear fire is contained/controlled and will be in patrol status. Lat/Log: 33.59.40; -107.12.773

These lighting caused fires are currently being staffed or are in patrol status. Thunderstorm activity is forecast for the next several days with higher humidity and precipitation forecasted.
