TAOS, NM – October 3, 2019 – Fire crews are working to contain each of the 11 wildfires totaling 75 acres discovered within the Maton Fire area. Containment of the fire area is currently 40% at this time. An investigation into the cause of the fires is continuing today. Weather forecasts show potential for heavy rain tonight and Friday which should assist firefighters with suppression efforts.

Smoke from the Maton Fires may be visible from US 285, US 84, the communities of El Rito, Medenales, Abiquiu and possibly Taos. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
