Carson NF Maton Fires 75% Contained

Fire crews are successfully suppressing 18 fires discovered within the Maton Fire area on the El Rito Ranger District. Total size is 105 acres with 75% containment. The cause of the fires is unknown and an investigation is currently taking place. The fire area received steady soaking rain this morning which has been significant in helping crews contain the fires.

Smoke from the Maton Fire may be visible from US 285, US 84, the communities of El Rito, Medenales, Abiquiu and possibly Taos. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
