Fire Update: A new fire start has been identified on the El Rito Ranger District on the Carson National Forest. The fire, which has been named the Cañada Fire, was detected this evening, June 8, 2020. Fire personnel are currently fighting the fire, which is burning 9 miles of north of El Rito, N.M. Aircraft have been assigned to the approximately 10-acre fire, which is consuming ponderosa pine and dry mixed conifer. Winds are making suppression efforts difficult. Smoke may be visible in the surrounding communities. More information will be released as it becomes available.
