Current Situation: Crews are assessing suppression repair opportunities on state and federal public lands to minimize impacts resulting from fire suppression activities on the Luna Fire. Firefighters continue to monitor containment lines as drier weather is expected over the next few days. As temperatures rise and the snow continues to melt, interior pockets of unburned fuel may cause visible smoke. Containment lines around the fire’s perimeter continue to hold.

If there are no significant changes to fire behavior, the next update will be Friday, Nov. 6, 2020.

Weather: Mostly sunny with temperatures increasing throughout the day. A warming and drying trend is expected to continue through the week.

Smoke: Smoke from the Luna Fire may be visible as interior pockets of fuel continue to burn. An interactive smoke map at https://fire.airnow.gov/  allows you to zoom into the area to see the latest smoke information. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures. Information on air quality and protecting your health can be found online at the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) website at https://nmtracking.org/fire.

Fire Restrictions: Stage 1 Fire Restrictions remain in effect on the Carson National Forest. For more information about fire restrictions, visit the Carson National Forest website and New Mexico Fire Information website at https://nmfireinfo.com/.

Fire Closures: The Carson National Forest issued a temporary closure (Forest Order 02-484) prohibiting the public from entering the area around the Luna Fire. This closure includes access for hunting. For more information on the Luna Fire closure, visit www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/carson/alerts-notices.
