The Yankee fire is smoldering in Socorro County, on the west side of Socorro Mountain, six miles west of Socorro. The fire was reported Tuesday, April 25 at 10:52 a.m., moving through grass and brush. Multiple resources responded including Forestry Division, USFS, BLM, and multiple VFD.
As of 9:55 a.m., April 27, the fire is looking good. Monitoring will continue throughout the day. New Mexico Tech has resumed operations. Containment is 80%. This will be the final notification unless there are significant changes.
